Melbreck Technical are working with a leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose equipment and machinery based near Heathrow.
Due to a planned expansion of their Supply Chain and Purchasing capability they are looking to strengthen their team and as such are looking to secure an Engineering Buyer on a permanent basis ASAP.
Purpose of the role:

To negotiate and place purchase orders as per requirement,ensuring schedule reporting and delivery promises are maintained by suppliers.

Main Duties and Accountabilities:

·Purchasing of all electrical and electronic production components, making full use of Datatrack reporting system and standardising the purchasing process in line with current purchasing processes.

·Negotiate and place purchase orders of all electrical components and consumables in line with production and business requirements.

·To expedite orders in accordance with purchase order requirements.

·Work with suppliers to communicate and improve deliveries, update systems accordingly.

·Review and develop existing suppliers, negotiate contracts with new suppliers.

·Management of supplier performance including development plans and reviews in line with company quality system, reviewing current KPI’s for suppliers and creation of new ones.

·Dealing with supplier enquiries and acknowledgements.

·Searching for new suppliers to increase supply base, improve costs and reduce spend and delivery lead times.

·Monitor supplier performance and provide feedback.

·Updating sales cost sheets with current supplier pricing.

·Occasional processing of goods received and C of C’s.

·Allocating from stock and maintaining stock levels.

·Maintenance of purchasing systems to accurately keep records.

·Providing general administrative support to the purchasing function.

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable background of purchasing in a manufacturing environment, ideally of hydraulic components or engineered parts.
  • Strong negotiation and excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of inventory management (parts lists) processes and practice.
  • Good level of IT literacy.
  • Good personal organisation and motivation abilities, self-managed.

Excellent communication skills. Ability to interface at all levels with internal contacts as well as customers and suppliers.

Flexible with regard to tasks and working hours.

Commercially astute, able to negotiate with suppliers to get best value.

Proactive and focused.

Understanding of engineering drawings would be an advantage.

Knowledge of ERP / MRP systems.

Full UK driving Licence.
